Progress: One of the underrated Pixar movies. Many people seem to forget that this movie existed. But lo and behold, here it is and it's great! The film centers around a ant named Flik, is on the look for anyone who can protect his colony from mean and hungry grasshoppers. However, he ends up recruiting a circus troupe instead. The movie can be used a satire about a demanding society where the grasshoppers are the oppressors and the ants are the conformers. Pixar is able to teach wonderful lessons through animated feature like this, an aspect that they'll keep on doing with future films. Overall, the movie provides great humor, while at the same time, low-key critiques society. |
Reflection: This movie is about an underdog that rises in the end. Flik is considered a trouble maker, since he cost the ants a lot of harvest, which in result made the grasshoppers demand more food. The colony push him away, but he revives by inspiring the ant colony to rise against the grasshoppers. He gives off the message of never giving up or losing hope. This movie also teach about rising against oppressors. The grasshoppers are satire of real oppressors in society that use their power to their advantages, but to the disadvantages of everyone else. Flik reveals to his colony that they are independent and can survive without the grasshoppers. It is a message to our society to know how to do that too. |
